Shinguards
Virtually all martial arts genres may at some point in training need shinguards. Shinguards are designed to protect both the shin, the ankle and the foot - depending on which model you buy.
If you practice Karate, MMA, Kickboxing or Thaiboxing, shinguards for sparring is always good to have at hand. Especially as a beginner. But even experienced and professionals use shinguards for sparring and training, so that they minimize the chance of injury before the match.
Nippon Sport has a huge selection of protectors that can cover all kinds of needs. It therefore does not matter what genre you practice and whether you are a beginner, experienced or professional. We also offer all kinds of models of shinguards. We offer models that have the complete protection that protects both the foot and the shin. We also offer models that only protect the shin. We have models with high protection and with less protection (to reduce weight).
There is therefore a large selection and we can understand if it can be difficult to assess which shinguards to buy. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us!
How to find the right size?
When trying on shinguards and trying to find the right size, you have to look for more than just comfort. When you stand in the store and feel if they fit well, it can be a completely different feeling you have in the club and in training. Therefore, it is important to keep the following things in mind:
- If it is a protector with both shin and foot protection, the foot must be able to move without obstruction and without irritation.
- The upper part of the shin guards must not hit the kneecap when standing up with outstretched legs. There should ideally be a couple of centimeters from the bottom to the kneecap for the leg protector.
- For the models that protect the instep, this part of the protection must cover down to the beginning of the toes. It must therefore not only protect half of the instep - then you must have a larger size.
- For the models that also protect the entire foot, the toes must not protrude beyond the protector when standing up with outstretched legs. If you can see the nails on your toes when you stand up, you need a bigger size.
