Mouthguard for Boxing
A mouth guard is absolutely necessary when sparring for boxing. Likewise, it is required for a fight in boxing.
The mouth guard is the only piece of equipment that you cannot borrow from others. If you forget your helmet, you can borrow it from another fighter. But if you forget your mouthguard, you can't just borrow it from someone else, as the mouthguard molds to the set of teeth. A mouth guard that is shaped after someone else's set of teeth can be more harmful than protective.
Double or single?
The term 'a double mouthguard' means that the mouthguard adapts over the teeth in both the upper and lower mouth. 'A single mouth guard' is a term for the fact that it is only adapted over the teeth in the upper mouth. The bottom of a single mouthguard is slightly shaped according to the teeth in the lower mouth.
Gel or regular?
A mouth guard is also available with a layer of protective gel. This gel helps to absorb the shocks even better. It also helps to fix itself better on the teeth, so that it does not fall out.
Mouthguards without gel are also very protective. That being said, those with gel are not necessarily better than those without. It depends a lot on the brand and the design.
